What we do with your material.

The short version

This website counts visits without storing anything on your device. A second, more detailed tool runs only if you allow it. No advertising, no profiling, no cross-site tracking.
Your video files stay on your device. Transcription and rendering both run on your own hardware.
To plan an edit, the app sends the text transcript of your footage to our processing service. That is the only part of your material that leaves your device.
You can use the app without creating an account.

1. Who this covers, and who we are

This policy applies to the NotchFrame website and to the NotchFrame desktop and mobile applications. It explains what information we handle, why, and what choices you have.

NotchFrame is operated from the United States, and "we" in this policy means NotchFrame. The limited data described below is handled on servers in the United States. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, that means your information is transferred outside your own country when you use the parts of the service that leave your device — which, as section 3 sets out, is the transcript text and nothing else. We rely on your consent and on the necessity of the transfer to provide the service you asked for.

2. The website

We count visits two ways, and they work differently.

Fathom Analytics runs for everyone. It stores nothing on your device — no cookies, no identifiers, nothing kept between visits — so there is nothing to ask permission for and no banner to answer. It records the page, the referring site, and rough country, and it cannot follow you between sites or recognise you when you come back. Fathom processes this on our behalf. If you are in the EU, it is handled on servers in the EU and your IP address is discarded there — it never reaches servers outside the EU, and only the anonymous count travels onward.

We also use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get read. It does not run until you allow it. Until you answer the banner, the analytics code is not requested at all — Google is not contacted, and nothing is stored on your device. If you decline, we keep one small entry in your browser recording that answer so we do not ask again, and nothing else — no analytics, no cookies, no contact with Google. If your browser blocks that entry, we will have to ask again on your next visit.

If you allow it, Google Analytics sets cookies to recognise a returning browser, and records the pages you visit, roughly where you are (country or city level, worked out by Google from your IP address, which is not passed on to us), your browser and device type, and how you arrived — a search engine, a link, or typed directly. Those cookies last up to 13 months from your most recent visit.

We run it with the advertising features switched off: no Google Signals, no ad personalisation, no remarketing, and no advertising or social tracking scripts anywhere on this site. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and nothing it collects is sold or shared. Google processes this data on our behalf, on servers in the United States.

You can change your mind at any time, in section 7 below, and declining costs you nothing — no part of this site behaves differently either way.

The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs — including your IP address, browser user-agent, the page requested and the time of the request — for security and reliability purposes. These logs are handled under Netlify's own privacy terms.

The typefaces are served from this site, not from a font service, so no font provider is contacted. Loading a page reaches our host and Fathom; it reaches Google only if you allowed analytics.

3. What stays on your device

The following never leaves your computer or phone unless you deliberately export or share it:

Your source video and audio files.
The transcript generated from them, which is produced locally.
Rendered exports and project files.
Your editing profile, if you use the app without an account.

4. What is sent, and why

Producing an edit requires deciding what to cut, and those decisions are made from the words spoken in your footage. To do that, the app sends the text transcript of your material — together with edit-related metadata such as timings, durations and cut boundaries — to our processing service, which uses a third-party model provider to produce the edit plan.

Your video and audio are not uploaded. Transcript text is processed to produce your edit plan and to diagnose faults, and we do not store it afterwards — nothing is retained by us once the plan comes back. We never use it to train our own models, we do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

One thing to be open about: the model that reads the transcript is run by a third-party cloud provider, under that provider's own data terms, which we do not control. We can speak for what we do with your transcript; we cannot speak for theirs. If the words in your footage are sensitive, treat NotchFrame the way you would treat any cloud AI service, and choose what you run through it accordingly.

Plainly, then: the footage never leaves your device; the words spoken in it do, as text, to plan the cut, and are used for nothing else.

5. Accounts

An account is optional. If you create one, we hold the email address you sign up with, your plan status, and the editing profile you have accumulated so it can follow you between devices. If you later take a paid plan, payment is handled by a third-party payment processor; we do not store your card details.

6. Who else is involved

We rely on a small number of service providers to operate NotchFrame:

Netlify — website hosting and server logs.
Fathom Analytics — counting website visits without cookies or identifiers. EU visitors are processed on EU servers, with the IP address discarded there.
Google Analytics — counting website visits, and only with your permission. Advertising features are switched off.
A frontier AI model, accessed through a major cloud provider — processes transcript text to produce edit plans. We do not retain the text or use it for training; the provider handles it under its own data terms.
A payment processor — only if you purchase a paid plan.

7. Your choices and rights

You can use the app without an account, in which case we hold nothing that identifies you beyond the server logs described in section 2 and the cookieless counts described there — and, if you allowed analytics on this website, the Google Analytics cookies too. If you do have an account, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it — including your accumulated editing profile.

Depending on where you live, you may have specific statutory rights over your personal data — under the California Consumer Privacy Act and comparable US state laws, or under the UK and EU GDPR. We honour those rights regardless of where you are; contact us using the address below and we will action the request.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we run no advertising or profiling to opt out of.

8. Children

NotchFrame is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we hold. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — which is part of why the product is built to keep your footage on your own hardware in the first place.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting how your material is handled will be signalled in the app.
